  • Yes, you need to keep your mouth clean even when you wear dentures. Brush your remaining teeth, gums and tongue with fluoride toothpaste to prevent dental problems.
  • Your full dentures act like a band-aid on your first day, which is why you have to wear them to bed. After 24 hours remove your dentures before going to sleep to keep gums healthy.
  • Ideally one should remove the dentures before sleeping. No matter how long you wear then for ensure that you perform proper oral hygiene. Clean your mouth and dentures properly.
  • You need to start slow – stick to liquid diet for the first few days. Post that chew evenly, cut your food into small pieces and be careful of hot liquids, tough foods & sticky foods.
  • When cleaning or soaking, use cold water to protect your dentures. Using hot water may misshapen your dentures making it an incorrect fit for your mouth.
  • It deprives the gums of rest & speeds up the pace of bone loss. This not only affects your overall oral health but it will gradually loosen your dentures fit causing discomfort

  • Stay away from nuts, popcorn, apples, carrot sticks, and corn on the cob and other foods that need to be chewed and grinded too much as it creates sore spots where dentures and gums meet.
  • Most types of dentures need to stay moist to keep their shape. Check with your dentist about properly storing your dentures overnight & take advise on cleaning and soaking solutions
